Waltham, 15th, September 2009; Two former MPS staff coaches have swapped the sidelines for the playing field this fall and put their coaching careers on hold in exchange for a playing opportunity in the NCAA game.
London natives Michael Beeson and Steven Hobart, have just began their freshman year at Bloomfield College in NJ after spending two years working as MPS staff coaches across the South Shore and Metro West regions.
"Initially I came out to Boston looking for some more coaching experience but thanks to MPS, I was offered an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Beeson. “MPS have an extensive network of college contacts and Steven and I are thankful that we were afforded the opportunity to showcase ourselves in front of a number of coaches. We are thoroughly enjoying playing in the NCAA game.”
Beeson and Hobart have both played significant roles to the start of the Bloomfield College Deacon’s season with both players earning starting slots for the Division II outfit. Away from the soccer field, both players are looking to begin a career in education after getting a taste for working with children at MPS.
“Most college freshmen have no experience of living away from home and the challenges associated with it,” said Beeson. “At MPS I gained the confidence to interact with people of all ages including management, colleagues, town soccer coaches, parents and children. I think I matured greatly at MPS and I cannot thank the club enough for providing an opportunity which will help me at college and in life beyond.”
MPS would like to congratulate Michael and Steven and wish them every success with their collegiate careers both on and off the soccer field.
