Waltham, 13th January 2009; MPS is delighted to announce that MPS Premier Team player Declan McCabe has been named to the 18-player roster for the US Club Soccer id2 National Selection International touring team.
The team is comprised of the best male players born in 1996 and 1997 who were identified from the fall 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps.
McCabe, who will also represent the US U-14 National Team next week in Guadalajara, Mexico, is the only player from Massachusetts named in the id2 National Selection squad.
“We are delighted that Declan has been identified amongst a prestigious group of elite players which form the id2 National Selection roster,” said MPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “The experience he will receive as part of this group will greatly aid his soccer development as he samples soccer cultures around the world.”
McCabe will travel with the id2 squad to the Netherlands and Germany during February. The squad will play three games, in addition to conducting daily training sessions, and experience the day-to-day environment at some of the world’s leading professional clubs including AFC Ajax and BV Borussia Dortmund.
“We are delighted with the group of players that we were able to select,” said Gerry McKeown, US Club Soccer’s id2 Boys’ Program Director. “There is great representation from the states that are traditionally strong, as well as a few players from areas that may not be at the national forefront. Our only regret is that we couldn’t bring additional teams as there are a lot of gifted players that did not make the roster.”
McCabe currently plays for the MPS U15 Bulldogs which is part of the club Premier Team Program. For more information, please contact Mark McDevitt at mmcdevitt@mpsbr.com or 781-891-6900x12.
