New England Premiership Announces Expansion Clubs for 2010
U15 – U18 Age Brackets added for upcoming spring season

Waltham, 25th January, 2010. The New England Premiership (NEP) is delighted to announce the addition of expansion clubs as the league prepares for the upcoming spring season.

To complement the U10-U14 age groups which contested the inaugural fall season, the NEP will add U15-U18 age brackets this spring.

Clubs joining the league for the spring include South Central Premier, New York Elite, FC Greater Boston Bolts, Lightning SC, New England Aztecs, VSA, Maine Coast United, Odyssey Sport, CFC and Rams FC.

“We are excited to welcome a number of new clubs on board as the league continues to develop,” said New England Premiership President James Hamblin. “The league has made the concession of allowing clubs to join for the spring 2010 season although they currently do not meet the league requirements on minimum number of teams. Clubs who do not field a full complement of teams have been admitted for a grace period to allow theNEP to evaluate them and allow the clubs to get a feel for the league.”

NE Aztecs, CFC and Odyssey Sport will field girls teams whilst South Central Premier, VSA and Rams FC will compete on the boys side. Maine Coast United, Lightning SC and New York Elite will compete in both genders. FC Greater Boston Bolts will enter various age groups in both genders with a view to field a full complement of teams commencing fall 2010. The total number of registered teams in the NEP now totals 130.

The NEP spring season will commence over the weekend of April 10th / 11th at Citizens Bank Fields in Lancaster. Teams will play 6v6 format at U10, 8v8 at U11 and U12 and 11v11 aged U13 and above.

“After an independent review during the fall 2009 season, the league has made some rule adjustments to tie in with the recommendations of US Soccer,” said Hamblin. “We have instituted a no re-entry per half rule for substitutes at aged U15 and above and will encourage this is done at ages U13 and U14 also. At ages U12 and below, we are strongly encouraging that all players are afforded a minimum 15 minutes on the field to promote player development."

"A second rule change has been instituted at U10 which will see the attacking team unable to cross the halfway line at opposing goal kicks. This will encourage teams to play the ball out through the defenders, again re-enforcing individual player development.”
